What happens in a Music Together class

A typical 45-minute session follows a consistent arc: a hello song that names each child, rhythm instruments passed hand to hand, movement activities where caregivers sway or lift to the beat, quieter lullaby stretches on the floor, and a goodbye song to close. That repetition is the curriculum. Toddlers build musical intuition by hearing the same songs eight to ten times across a season. By week four or five, most children anticipate the next phrase before it arrives; by week eight, many fill in the melodic gap themselves.

Caregivers attend every class as active participants. An engaged caregiver who sings along and makes eye contact during the lullaby is fuel to the fire of a child’s musical attention. A caregiver who sits back and scrolls a phone is water on that fire. Your voice does not need to be good. It needs to be present.

Getting to the Lawrence Park studio from Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant sits close to the Bayview and Eglinton corner. From the Mount Pleasant Road corridor, Eglinton runs east to Bayview, then Bayview north to Lawrence: the Lawrence Park studio at 2180 Bayview Ave is at that intersection, roughly eight minutes by car. From the Yonge and Lawrence area, Lawrence runs east directly to Bayview.

By TTC, the 54 Lawrence East bus from Lawrence Station stops at Bayview, a short walk from the entrance. Sunnybrook Park is directly across Bayview, so families often pair class day with a walk through Lawrence Park Ravine. Bayview Village is a few minutes north for errands on the way home. Parking: small lot behind the building, paid lot across Bayview, metered street spots; Saturday sessions fill the small lot early.

What children gain at each stage

A six-month-old absorbs pitch and pulse through passive listening and the sensation of being rocked to a beat. By two or three, children vocalize, echo short phrases, and match claps to rhythm. A five-year-old in a mixed-age class often models for younger children and begins to internalize tempo and dynamics.

After Music Together, children aged four to seven can move into Rhythm Kids, available at select locations, bridging group music play with foundational listening skills. From age five onward, private lessons in piano, guitar, singing, or other instruments are available. Children who build rhythmic and tonal foundations in Music Together tend to settle into private lessons more quickly.

Drop-in classes and Music Together work on different timelines. Toddlers build musical intuition by hearing the same songs repeatedly across a season, not once. A drop-in breaks that accumulation. By the eighth or ninth visit, a child who seemed passive in week one is filling in the melody. To see what a class looks like before committing, we offer a free demo class with no obligation.
Yes, caregivers participate fully: singing, clapping, swaying, eye contact during quieter moments. An engaged caregiver is fuel to the fire of a child’s musical attention; a caregiver who opts out is water on that fire. Singing ability is not the point. Presence is.
Birth through age five, with a caregiver present. Mixed-age classes allow siblings at different stages to attend together. After five, Rhythm Kids offers a bridge at select locations, and private lessons in piano, guitar, singing, and other instruments begin from age five.
An independent teacher is usually one person. ABC Academy has multiple credentialed Music Together teachers across two Toronto locations, which means a guaranteed teacher-match if your first fit is not right. When children are ready for private lessons, piano, guitar, singing, and RCM exam prep are all available within the same school.
