What happens in a Music Together class
A typical 45-minute session follows a consistent arc: a hello song that names each child in the circle, rhythm instruments passed hand to hand, movement activities where caregivers sway or lift to the beat, quieter lullaby stretches on the floor, and a goodbye song to close. That repetition is the curriculum. Toddlers build musical intuition by hearing the same songs eight to ten times across a 10-week season. By week four or five, most children anticipate the next phrase before it arrives. By week eight, many fill in the melodic gap themselves.
Caregivers attend every class as active participants. An engaged caregiver who sings along and makes eye contact during the lullaby is fuel to the fire of a child’s musical attention. A caregiver who sits back and scrolls a phone is water on that fire. Singing quality does not matter. Presence does.
Getting to the Lawrence Park studio from Yonge-Eglinton
From Yonge and Eglinton, the Lawrence Park studio is about ten minutes by car: Yonge north to Lawrence Ave E, then east along Lawrence to Bayview. The studio sits at that intersection, at 2180 Bayview Ave, North York M4N 3K7. By TTC, take the Yonge subway or the Crosstown LRT north from Eglinton Station to Lawrence Station, then the 54 Lawrence East bus east to Bayview, a short walk from the entrance. Total door-to-door from Eglinton Station is about fifteen minutes. Sunnybrook Park begins just across Bayview, and Lawrence Park Ravine borders the road on the approach. Bayview Village is a few minutes further north. Parking: small lot behind the building, paid lot directly across Bayview, and metered street spots along Bayview and Lawrence. Saturday sessions fill the small lot early, so the paid lot is the reliable choice.
What children gain at each stage
A six-month-old absorbs pitch and pulse through passive listening and the physical sensation of being rocked to a beat. By two or three, children vocalize, echo short melodic phrases, and match claps to a beat. A five-year-old in a mixed-age class often models for younger children and begins to internalize tempo and dynamics. After Music Together, children aged four to seven can move into Rhythm Kids, available at select locations. From age five onward, private lessons in piano, guitar, singing, or other instruments are available at our Lawrence Park studio and at our Conway studio at 12 Conway Ave, Toronto M6E 1H2.
