Getting here from Davisville
The Lawrence Park studio at 2180 Bayview Ave sits about seven minutes south of Davisville by car. From Yonge and Davisville, head south on Yonge to Lawrence Ave E and turn east; Bayview Ave is a short drive from there. From the Mount Pleasant and Davisville area, head south on Mount Pleasant and continue toward Lawrence Avenue. The studio is close to the Lawrence Park Ravine trails and Sunnybrook Park, so families sometimes combine a lesson with an afternoon walk. Bayview Village is nearby if you want to wait out a lesson at a coffee shop.
Parking at the studio is available in the small lot behind the building. There is also a paid lot directly across Bayview, and metered street parking along Bayview for shorter waits. For families without a car, the 11 Bayview bus connects at Davisville Station (Yonge line) and runs south along Bayview toward Lawrence. Travel time from the station by bus is roughly fifteen minutes. Davisville Station itself is four stops south of Lawrence Station on Line 1.
What guitar lessons cover
Beginners in the first six months work through the fundamentals: how to hold the guitar, sitting posture, left-hand fretting position, and right-hand technique for both strumming and fingerpicking. Teachers introduce simple chord shapes early so students can hear complete sounds right away, rather than drilling scales in isolation. Most students play short, recognizable songs within the first few lessons, which keeps motivation steady during the months when physical habits are forming.
Children starting at age 5 or 6 work with age-appropriate song books and shorter lesson sequences. Older children and teenagers usually progress more quickly through technique because they can retain instructions across a week, and their hands are large enough to manage chord transitions with less strain. Adults who are new to guitar cover the same foundations but can absorb musical context more quickly, so lessons sometimes move at a different pace than younger students' lessons do.
Lesson length is 30 or 45 minutes. Most beginners, especially younger children, start with 30 minutes: enough time to review last week, work on one or two new ideas, and set a clear assignment for home practice. Students who are ready for more material, or who are preparing for RCM examinations, often move to 45 minutes after their first term. Your teacher will give a recommendation at the end of the first month.
