Music lesson at ABC Academy of Music, Toronto

Learning music builds skills that transfer across everything else. The right teacher makes the difference between quitting in month two and playing for life.

Music Class for a 2-Year-Old in Toronto

At two years old, your child is discovering rhythm, movement, and sound. Music helps develop language skills, coordination, and emotional expression during these crucial early years.

For children under five, Music Together® is the right fit. Private lessons begin at age five, once children can focus for longer periods and follow instruction independently.

Why Music Together for Your 2-Year-Old

Music Together® combines singing, movement, and instrument play in a parent-child class. Your child learns by watching, listening, and participating alongside you—no pressure to perform or read music.

Classes run for 10 weeks each season. A free demo class is available so you can see what to expect before enrolling. Music Together is led by Trained Music Together teachers who understand how very young children absorb musical concepts.

Our classes meet at several locations across Toronto, making it easy to find a time that works for your family.

What Happens in a Music Together Class

Each 45-minute class includes singing, movement activities, and play with instruments like drums, shakers, and bells. Your child doesn’t need to sit still or follow complex directions. The goal is exposure—letting your two-year-old experience music as a natural, joyful part of life.

Children benefit from hearing live singing and musical rhythm. Research shows that early musical exposure supports language development and helps build neural connections linked to learning.

The Path Forward: Music Together to Private Lessons

Music Together builds a foundation. Around age four, children begin our Rhythm Kids program, which bridges group music exploration and focused skill-building. By age five, children who’ve had this musical background are ready to explore private lessons—piano, guitar, violin, voice, or other instruments.

Private lessons run 30 or 45 minutes and are held at our Lawrence Park studio and our Conway studio. Our private-lesson teachers hold university music degrees or the equivalent. See current rates on our tuition page.

Getting Started This Season

Seasons typically run for 10 weeks. You can register for the next available session and attend a free demo class to meet the teacher and see the environment. Classes are small, which means your child gets attention and your family gets a sense of community.

ABC Academy has been in business since 2003. We’ve worked with hundreds of Toronto families to introduce music to their children from infancy onward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to sing in the class?
Yes, part of Music Together is singing with your child. You don’t need to be a trained singer. Your voice and presence are what matter.

What if my child is shy or doesn’t participate right away?
Shyness is common. Many two-year-olds observe for the first few weeks before joining in. Teachers expect this and create a relaxed environment where listening counts as learning.

Can my child start at any time during the season?
New students can usually join within the first few weeks of a season. Contact our studio directly to discuss timing and availability.

What if my child is two and a half or almost three?
Music Together covers ages birth through five. Any age within that range is welcome. Your two-year-old will grow through the program alongside other children of similar and older ages.
