What happens in a Music Together class

A typical 45-minute session at our Brampton studio moves through hello songs, body percussion, rhythm instrument exploration, movement sequences, and lullabies. The format sounds simple. What makes it effective is repetition across the 10-week season.

Each season’s collection of songs is heard week after week. In the first few sessions, your child listens. By the middle of the season, they start to anticipate the next phrase. By the final weeks, they are filling in words, rhythms, and movements on their own. That progression, hearing the same material enough times to internalize it rather than just recognize it, is how children build genuine musical intuition. A single drop-in visit skips the accumulation that makes the learning stick.

Caregivers attend every class, not as observers but as full participants. The Music Together model is explicit about this: a caregiver who sings, claps, and moves through the material gives the child a live model to study. Engaged caregivers are fuel to the fire; distracted ones, even well-meaning ones, are water on the fire. Singing ability does not matter at all. Presence and effort do.

Getting to the Brampton studio from Castlemore

Castlemore sits in the northeast corner of Brampton, near the Castlemore Road and Airport Road area. From there, the Brampton studio is roughly a 15 to 20-minute drive, depending on time of day, following Airport Road south into central Brampton. The route is straightforward and largely avoids the congestion points around Highway 410 during off-peak hours.

Families traveling by Brampton Transit can use routes along Airport Road, which connect toward the central Brampton transfer points. The studio is at 363 Howden Blvd, Brampton; we recommend checking Brampton Transit’s trip planner for current schedules from the Castlemore and Airport Road stop area.

Parking is available at the studio, which is practical for families arriving with young children and strollers. Most Castlemore families who enroll attend consistently across the full 10-week season. The commute becomes part of the weekly rhythm rather than a friction point.

What children at different ages get from Music Together

At six months, a child in a Music Together class absorbs everything without producing much visibly. They are listening to tonalities, tracking movement, and building the internal library they will draw on later. Parents often notice the response at home: a child who calms to a song heard in class, or who startles to recognition when the song starts.

By age three, the same child is moving, experimenting with instruments, and beginning to match pitch. They are not being taught; they are discovering. The class gives them enough material and enough repetition for discoveries to happen naturally.

At age five, children who have attended Music Together classes tend to have a broad rhythmic and tonal vocabulary before they begin formal instruction. That background makes the transition to private lessons noticeably smoother. The age pathway continues with Rhythm Kids classes at select locations for children aged four to seven, then private lessons starting at age five or six, in piano, guitar, singing, and other instruments.

An independent teacher offers one-on-one continuity with a single instructor. ABC Academy offers access to a team of credentialed Music Together teachers, a guaranteed teacher-match policy if your first pairing is not the right fit, and two Toronto-area locations. Our teachers hold university music degrees or equivalent conservatory credentials, and all complete the Music Together teacher training program. Families interested in RCM preparation later will find that pathway available here; families who simply want a rich early-childhood music experience, with no exam goals at all, are equally welcome and make up the majority of our enrollment.
Drop-in music classes can be fun. What they cannot replicate is the cumulative effect of a structured season. Music Together’s 10-week season uses a specific song collection repeated across every class. Toddlers build musical intuition by hearing the same songs 8 to 10 times; by the final weeks they anticipate and then fill in the phrases themselves. A single drop-in visit provides a pleasant experience, but skips the accumulation that produces real musical learning. We offer a free demo class as a low-commitment way to see the program before enrolling in a full season.
Yes, caregivers participate in every class. You do not need to sing well. What matters is that your child sees you trying: singing, clapping, moving through the material. Children learn music the same way they learn language, by watching the people closest to them. An engaged caregiver is fuel to the fire. Singing ability is irrelevant; presence is everything.
Music Together classes are for children from birth to age five, attending with a caregiver. Siblings in that range can be in the same class together. For children aged four to seven, Rhythm Kids classes are available at select locations, offering a bridge toward more independent musical participation. Private lessons in piano, guitar, singing, and other instruments are available starting around age five or six.
Castlemore is one of the longer drives to our Brampton studio. Most families who enroll from the area have either attended a free demo class first or spoken to other parents about the program. The 10-week season builds on itself, so the weekly trip becomes part of a regular routine rather than a recurring decision. We find that families who arrive with a clear sense of what Music Together does tend to stay for multiple seasons. The free demo class is the easiest way to answer that question for yourself before committing.
