Music Together® classes in Snelgrove

ABC Academy of Music offers Music Together® classes in Snelgrove, serving families from our Brampton studio. We have been an authorized Music Together center since 2003, making us one of the longer-running programs in the Greater Toronto Area. Classes welcome children from birth through age five, with a caregiver in attendance every week, across a 10-week season. Regular private lessons, when your child is ready to move on, are $55.38 for 30 minutes or $64.81 for 45 minutes; a trial lesson is $20. Our Music Together teachers hold university music degrees or the equivalent in conservatory training. A free demo class is available so you can see the program before committing to a full season. Rating: 4.8 from 150 students on Google.

What happens in a Music Together class

A typical 45-minute session moves through several short activities: hello songs, rhythmic chanting, instrument play with egg shakers and rhythm sticks, open movement, and a quieter lullaby to close. Nothing is rushed. Children who want to sit and watch are welcome to; children who want to run in circles are equally welcome.

What makes the program work is repetition across the season. Your child will hear the same collection of songs week after week for ten weeks. Around week three or four, something shifts: a toddler who was previously watching starts to fill in the last note of a phrase. That is not a coincidence. It is how musical intuition builds, the same way language builds, through accumulated exposure rather than instruction.

Caregivers attend every class, and how you participate matters more than how well you sing. Think of your energy as fuel: an engaged caregiver, even one singing off-key, gives the child permission to try. A distracted one, scrolling or hanging back, is water on that fire. The teacher sets the tone, but the caregiver is the engine.

Getting to our Brampton studio from Snelgrove

Snelgrove sits in the northern corner of Brampton, roughly centred around Hurontario Street and Bovaird Drive. From that intersection, our Brampton studio is about 16 minutes south along Hurontario, passing through Heart Lake and into the central Brampton area. The drive is direct, with no highway needed.

Families coming from The Gore Road corridor or from the Countryside Drive area can take Bovaird west to Hurontario and head south from there. Those arriving from the Mayfield Road end of Snelgrove will find Hurontario Street the most consistent route regardless of time of day.

Parking is available at the studio, so you do not need to plan around street parking or meters. For families who prefer transit, Brampton Transit Route 1 (Hurontario) connects the Bovaird area to the broader Brampton network. Realistic travel time from Snelgrove by car is 15 to 20 minutes depending on which part of the neighbourhood you are starting from.

Peel Region families from Caledon East, Tullamore, and other communities north of Brampton also use our studio, and the route south on Hurontario is the same corridor for most of them.

What children get at different ages

A six-month-old arrives with no visible musical knowledge and leaves the same way, at least on the surface. What is happening underneath is that the auditory system is being tuned. Babies who hear varied tonalities and rhythms early develop finer musical discrimination later.

A three-year-old participates more visibly: they grab the shaker, they try to march in time, they shout the words they know and hum through the ones they do not. They are building the same intuition, but now you can watch it happen.

A five-year-old in their second or third season often leads the younger children without realising it. They know the songs, they anticipate the tempo changes, and they are ready for the next step.

That next step, for children around five or older, is private lessons. At select locations we also offer Rhythm Kids, a bridging program for children aged four to seven that extends the group music experience before private study begins. From there, children move into piano, voice, or other instruments with one of our credentialed teachers.

Drop-in classes are social and enjoyable, but they do not build the same musical foundation. Music Together is designed around a 10-week season with a consistent song collection. Toddlers need to hear the same songs eight to ten times before they start to fill in melodies and anticipate rhythmic patterns. A drop-in schedule breaks that accumulation: your child arrives to different material each time and never reaches the point where the material becomes familiar enough to engage with independently. If you want to experience a class before committing to a full season, we offer a free demo class. That is a better low-commitment entry point than a drop-in model, because you see the actual program in action.
Caregivers are expected to participate: singing, clapping, and moving with the class. Singing quality is not the point. What matters is that your child sees you trying. Think of your engagement as fuel: an enthusiastic caregiver, even one whose pitch wanders, signals to the child that this is worth doing. A caregiver who sits back and watches, or checks their phone, is water on that fire. You do not need to be musical. You need to be present.
Music Together is designed for children from birth through age five, always with a caregiver. Siblings in that age range can attend the same class together, which many Snelgrove families find convenient. At select locations, we offer Rhythm Kids for children aged four to seven, which bridges group music play and the more focused attention that private lessons require. Around age five, most children are ready to begin private instrument study.
Often, yes. The program is designed so that no child is ever put on the spot. There is no performance pressure, no turn-taking in front of others, and no expectation that a child will participate in any particular way on any particular day. A shy child may spend the first two or three classes simply watching. That watching is part of the learning. By mid-season, most children who started on the edges are in the middle of the room. The structure is calm and predictable, which helps sensitive children settle.
